Getting here:
  • By road: Windsor is the southwestern end of the 401, about 3½ hours from Toronto.
  • By train: the VIA station is 2 km from the Hilton
  • By bus: the Greyhound station is 1 block from the Hilton
  • By air: Both Westjet and Air Canada fly into Windsor airport (Windsor YQG). You can also fly in to Detroit Metropolitan (Detroit DTW), there is a shuttle service to Windsor.
  • By water, just to be complete: The Hilton is on the Detroit River.

  • Host hotel: Hilton Windsor The Hilton Windsor hotel is ideally located along the beautiful river front in downtown Windsor, directly across from Detroit, Michigan, USA.     For the chess tournament, we have negotiated a special rate, for up to 7 days between July 3 and July 12.
    Rooms are $119 for two beds, with free high speed internet. (Please note that parking is extra.) There are a limited number of rooms available at this special price. (update July 2nd: not sure if this price is still available, and I have no time to check. JC)

    Impressive, eh? The hotel is angled so that all the rooms have a view of the riverfront, either east towards Belle Isle or west towards the Ambassador Bridge. You can also pay extra to get a room with a panoramic view. I would.

  • Downtown: City centre hotels run $110 - $149, usually parking is extra

  • Outlying districts: Good hotels on Huron Line run about $110 up...

  • "Trucker Motels": You can sleep cheap at various lower-quality motels on the outskirts of the city
